'Fantastic Four' Reboot Moving Production From Vancouver to Louisiana (Exclusive)
Tax incentives helped lure Josh Trank's film to the state

"The Fantastic Four" is headed to the Deep South.

The super-team reboot is moving production from Vancouver to Louisiana, a studio spokeswoman told TheWrap.

Louisiana lawmakers recently killed a bill that would have reduced the state's film production incentive program, keeping its generous transferrable credits in place. That made Fox feel comfortable sending work there, according to an individual with knowledge of the decision-making process.

This marks the first Marvel-based Fox film to shoot in Louisiana, after many of the studio's superhero movies -- such as "X-Men" and the upcoming "X-Men: Days of Future Past" -- were shot in Canada.

"The Fantastic Four" isn't alone among tentpoles headed to Louisiana now that the specter of cuts has dissipated. "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" will also shoot in the state, Jerry Bruckheimer told The Playlist last month. The producers cited the tax incentives as the reason for the decision.

Louisiana offers a 30 percent transferrable tax credit for in-state expenditures related to a film's production -- and an additional 5 percent labor incentive for hiring the state's residents.

Casting on "The Fantastic Four" has yet to be announced, but the film is expected to begin production in September. Josh Trank ("Chronicle") will direct the film, which is slated for release on March 6, 2015.

'Fantastic Four' Screen Tests: Emmy Rossum, Kate Mara and Miles Teller in the Mix

According to multiple insiders, Kate Mara and Emmy Rossum tested for the part of Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman, on Tuesday.

OK...

Insiders also say that Miles Teller, currently one of the town’s hottest young actors coming off of the Sundance smash Whiplash, tested for the part of Reed Richards, the stretchable leader known as Mr. Fantastic.

Christian Cook, meanwhile, is said to have tested for Ben Grimm, the rock-skinned strongman of the group.

The only person attached to the reboot at this point is Michael B. Jordan, due to Fox exercising the option it had on the actor after Chronicle, also directed by Trank. Jordan will play the Human Torch.

Dr. Doom is said to be the villain of the reboot (the character appeared in Fox’s two previous movies and was played by Julian McMahon). The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision is hearing that the studio is likely to go for a big name and isn’t ruling out switching genders for the role.

‘Fantastic Four’ Cast Revealed


After a final rewrite to the script and a long casting process, Fox looks to have assembled the team for its “Fantastic Four” reboot.

Miles Teller, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell will join Michael B. Jordan in the latest installment in the comicbook franchise.

Mara recently closed a deal to play play Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman. While no offer is out yet, Bell is expected to be tapped to play Ben Grimm/The Thing. Teller has an offer to play Reid Richards/Mr. Fantastic, but deal points are a little further away from being completed.

Teller and Mara have been on Fox’s radar since they were expected to test in November — events that were pushed when Simon Kinberg came on for the last polish on the script.

Bell came into the mix after Fox resumed screen tests.

Jordan has been attached for some time to play Johnny Storm/The Human Torch.

Based on the comic “The Ultimate Fantastic Four,” the contemporary update will focus on the characters as young men and women. Josh Trank will helm the pic with Kinberg, Matthew Vaughn and Gregory Goodman serving as producers.

With its four leads on board, Fox will now try to find its villain and hopes to test a handful of actors in the coming weeks.

“The Fantastic Four” is slated to bow June 19, 2015.
