Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-v ... ude-707976Marvel Studios is moving fast to make good on its promise to keep its July 17, 2015, release date for Ant-Man.
Sources say Rawson Thurber, Adam McKay and Ruben Fleischer are among a group of directors that are meeting with the studio to replace Edgar Wright, who abruptly exited the long-gestating project last week over creative differences.
The trio offers a glimpse into the mindset of Marvel president Kevin Feige as he looks to fill the hole left by Wright, a favorite among the fan-boy community. Thurber (We're the Millers, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) and McKay (the Anchorman movies) are known for their bawdy comedies. Fleischer, whose credits include Zombieland and Gangster Squad, has moved deftly between genres with comedic elements. Wright, a Brit with a more quirky sensibility, clashed with Marvel over the tone of the film.
The “Ant-Man” director saga continues and it's not a good look for Marvel, as Adam McKay had a last-minute change of heart and has abruptly pulled out of talks to replace Edgar Wright on the superhero movie, an individual familiar with the situation told TheWrap.
That means Marvel will have to restart its search, and it's expected to start with Rawson Marshall Thurber (“We're the Millers”) and Ruben Fleischer (“Zombieland”), both of whom will likely be asked to meet with top Marvel brass in the coming days. Thurber is believed to be the frontrunner for the job now that McKay has officially withdrawn from contention.
